ARTWORK ELIGIBILITY:
SOYRA in the SQUARE is open to all SOYRA artists working in any two-dimensional media with a wide range of styles from abstract to high realism, and including collage.
A maximum of TWO entries may be submitted per artist.
There is a non-refundable $30.00 submission fee. Entry fees are payable by credit card online during the online submission process.
The artwork was created within the last three years and not previously exhibited in a SOYRA juried show.
Submitted artwork must be original, two-dimensional and created in traditional paint media such as oil, acrylic and watercolour. Alternate mediums such as pastel, charcoal, coloured pencil, textile, mixed media, collage and photography are acceptable for submission.
All artwork submitted must be entirely the work of the artist. Entries must not be copies, derivatives, or based in any way on other artists’ paintings, photographs, or other artistic work. Any artwork deemed to be a copy, print or created using AI will not be accepted. All submissions must have been executed without the supervision of an instructor, in a class or workshop.
Artworks must be appropriate for public display for all ages. Works must not be offensive or condescending towards any race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation, and must not be used to promote or oppose political views. SOYRA reserves the right to refuse to accept a piece of artwork.
Any artwork not within these guidelines will not be accepted for jurying.
All decisions made by the juror are final.
All sales are subject to a 20% commission.
IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS:
Entries will be juried using digital jpeg image files. Images should meet the following specifications:
Must be in jpg format only. They should be sharp, glare-free and taken under well-lit conditions.
Only artwork should show in the submitted image file (no frames or extraneous backgrounds).
Image files need to be a minimum of 500kb but cannot exceed 1MB.
Image files are to be named using the following convention:
LastName.FirstName_Title.Medium.Size.jpg (example: Doe.Jane_mypainting.acrylic.12x24).
ARTWORK SPECIFICATIONS:
Framed or unframed artworks are welcomed. All work on canvas, wood panel or canvas board 1 inch in depth or less must be framed. Unframed artwork must be on a gallery canvas or wood panel that is no less than 1.5 inches in depth. Canvas sides must be painted for a finished look. Wood panel may leave sides unfinished but must be clean.
MAXIMUM size of artwork - 42 X 42 inches including frame.
MINIMUM size of artwork - 12 X 12 inches unframed on gallery depth and 11 X 14 inches including frame.
All accepted pieces must be dry, securely wired using D-rings and ready to hang. NO artwork with eye hooks or saw tooth hangers will be accepted.
All members whose artwork is accepted in the show are required to volunteer for a minimum of one shift between November 12 and November 15. Duties requiring volunteers include help with intake, hanging, sales during the show, greeting and directing guests, or checkout at the end of the show. A signup list with dates, times and duties will be emailed to you with your acceptance letter. If you wish to contribute more than one shift, that’s great!
PEOPLES’ CHOICE AWARD
Votes will be tallied throughout the show. The Winner receives a complimentary SOYRA membership for 2027.
OUR JUROR:
Margaret Roseman, CSPWC, SCA, TWS
Margaret is an acclaimed water-media artist, juror and educator working in watercolour and acrylic. She has taught across North America, Europe and the Caribbean.
Margaret is a signature member of Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, Society of Canadian Artists, and Toronto Watercolour Society (Founder and Director). With her artworks featured in several publications, she has also been profiled in Canadian Who’s Who.
